West Ham most loyal club in history

Just 17 managers in its history - compared to 55 for Palace.
Interesting who come second, too. Must be something to do with the East End spirit.

Have we been successful?
Has it made us happy?
Like a lot of other teams (Southampton and Coventry come to mind) we bumped along for years in the old First Division when there were 22 teams and only two got relegated.
Once that changed we lost our stickability

Saw a Twitter where we were the 8th best attended club in Europe this season behind Arsenal in 7th. We stand a chance of beating them next season if we go up to 60,000...

What changed in the 90s was that relegation became devastating. You'd lose huge amounts of money and most of your best players. Even if you got promoted again, it took several seasons to recover. Pardew and Allardyce's overachieving first promoted seasons papered over the cracks that the squads they had were still very weak and would need years of rebuilding.
So owners couldn't risk hanging onto underachieving managers in the hope that they might turn good one day.
The situation has changed again, though. For the first time in our history we're one of the biggest spenders in the league. After six years of spending in the Premier League, we now have a squad that's deeper than we've probably ever had. If our left back runs into a patch of bad form or gets injured, we can replace him with another left back who cost £6m.
It's unlikely we'll be relegated, no matter how bad the season, so I can see us going back to the tradition of giving our managers a lot of time. Still, if we appoint a dud like Roeder or Zola, I doubt they'll get forever to prove themselves.

The record is really only of note up to the appointment of Lou Macari.
Since then we have been fairly typical in our comings and goings I would have thought.

17 is still remarkable over 'three centuries' though when at 43 ive seen 12 of those come and go in my lifetime it doesn't seem so good.

im more impressed with our loyal fans, we win nothing play crap half the time, move to a new stadium with issues and yet we will still hit 50k attendances.

Who can forget Kevin Keen,twice caretaker after Curbishley resigned and Grant got the chop.
So it's 18 including caretakers.

Only five managers from our beginnings until Johnny Lyall's departure in 1989.
That is something I've always been proud of.
